Pablo did such an amazing job on the main site image – I wanted a progression of philosophical thinkers from Ancient Greece and China, through the Middle Ages, the Enlightenment, and Modern times before finally arriving at a comics superhero. As you can see below, Pablo understood the assignment perfectly!

<img decoding="async" width="1024" height="622" data-src="https://comicphilosophy.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/COMICPHI2-1120-1024x622.jpg" alt="Depiction of the theme of Comic Philosophy, showing the progression of moral thinking (normative ethics) through the ages. I enjoyed these images so much – and the collaborative process of working with Pablo – that I continued to commission art for the site on a regular basis. But these are scattered across the site, and I thought it would be nice to put them all together in one place, along with some early background concept sketches.

I’ve also interviewed Pablo by e-mail, where I queried him on his artistic background, influences and process. We will go through his answers below, including some questions on the specific images in more detail (like the origin of the “CP” superhero design above).

The latest image at the top of this page was probably the most challenging assignment I’ve given Pablo yet – I wanted our group of philosophical thinkers to be dressed up in cosplay as their favorite superhero, attending a modern comics convention.

<img decoding="async" width="1024" height="679" data-src="https://comicphilosophy.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/CONN_1120-1024x679.jpg" alt="Comic Philosophy's historical philosophers dressed in cosplay of their favorite superheroes attending a comic convention. I suppose I got a comic book shortly after that—I can’t recall exactly which one right now, though I do remember the first ones I owned: a reprint of a *Spider-Man* issue by Gil Kane and *New Mutants* #1. A little later, I got my hands on an issue of *The Avengers* by Byrne (which included the *Official Handbook* profile page showing all the members’ faces), and that was when I fell down the rabbit hole :D.

I had already been drawing since I was little, but that definitely fueled my desire to do it even more; my school notebooks were filled with Marvel heroes and whatever else crossed my mind.

<img decoding="async" width="1024" height="622" data-src="https://comicphilosophy.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/SHOP_1120-1024x622.jpg" alt="Final drawing of a comic book store, featuring the philosophers and superheroes shown on Comic Philosophy. I love the “official” Marvel and DC teams—meaning the series where all the big events happen and the characters really matter. My ideal Avengers lineup would feature the classics: Captain America, Iron Man, Hawkeye (the classic wise-cracking version, not the unrecognizable character he is now), Vision, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Wonder Man, Hank Pym (in any of his identities), and Wasp… (I’m not a huge Thor fan, with a few exceptions).

That said, for some reason I’m also a fan of the more casual lineups; for instance, the *Evolutionary War* annual team is one of my favorites, even though no one remembers it. As for the Justice League, I haven’t read as much of it—Marvel has always been published more widely in Spain—but I suppose I’d go with the classic setup too: the core seven plus a few additions like Firestorm, Red Tornado, and so on. Ultimately, those supporting characters are the heart of both teams.

I must ask – is there a superhero character you most closely identify with? How about a super-villain? 😉

Phew, I couldn’t really say—I’d love to be a Green Lantern or the Silver Surfer, haha.
